Rockets-Mavericks Preview


(AP) - The Dallas Mavericks are back home, but at the rate things are going
they might be staying there for the summer.

Chandler Parsons' playoffs are over, Rajon Rondo's volatile turn in Dallas is
done and a postseason run that barely got started may soon be finished as
well if the Mavericks can't quickly turn things around in Friday night's Game
3 against the Houston Rockets.

Dallas announced Wednesday that Rondo injured his back before the last of
several times the point guard was benched in four months under Rick Carlisle
- including almost all of the second half of a 111-99 loss to Houston on
Tuesday night that gave the Rockets a 2-0 series lead.

小牛昨天宣布Rondo因為背傷將不會歸隊，在這之前他多次因為與教練的摩擦

Asked if he thought the free agent-to-be - who came over in a December trade
with Boston - would wear a Mavericks uniform again, Carlisle didn't mess
around.

"No, I don't," the coach said.

Rondo and Carlisle had a February shouting match on the court that resulted
in a one-game suspension, and the latest of his benchings came Tuesday. Rondo
was quickly pulled in the second half after picking up his third and fourth
fouls guarding James Harden and receiving a technical after one of the calls.

Parsons won't get to finish the first year of a three-year, $46 million deal
he signed last summer, an offer Houston declined to match. He tried to keep
playing after getting hurt at Indiana on March 29, but came out early two
games later against his former team.

The 26-year-old forward pushed hard to get ready for the playoffs, then

Devin Harris also missed Game 2 with a left toe injury, but he's probable to
play Friday and the Mavericks certainly could use him with Rondo done. It's

"From here, we're moving forward. We've got a series to win and we've got to
win Game 3 with the guys that are available."

Unfortunately for Carlisle, no one on the roster looked capable of defending
Dwight Howard in Game 2. After foul trouble limited him to just 17 minutes in
the opener, Houston's big man had 28 points and 12 rebounds Tuesday in 33
minutes - his most since January 19.

遺憾的是，第二戰看起來沒有人擋得住Dwight Howard，Howard因為犯規麻煩，
在第一戰只上場17分鐘，不過第二戰他在33分鐘之內拿下了28分12籃板，這是

"It's playoff basketball," said Howard, who missed 41 regular-season games
with right knee injuries. "I think for guys that have been around for a while
they tend to play a little bit different in the playoffs than they do in the
regular season. It's a new season for myself and I get a chance to start
fresh."

Howard had a huge series in the first round against Portland a year ago even
as Houston lost, and he seems to be relishing a matchup with fellow former
defensive player of the year Tyson Chandler. The two had to be separated by
teammates in Game 2 after Chandler pushed Howard down and received a
technical foul.

frustrated and get me into a fight and a wrestling match with him and that
way I'm not focused on what I need to do for my team. I have to stay in that
zone."

While Howard's dunks and blocks - he has seven of the latter in the first two
games - could fill a highlight reel, they're far from his only contributions.
Teammates raved about the work he does on defense that doesn't show up under
his name on the box score.

"(There's) the shots that he deterred," point guard Jason Terry said.
"They're coming in there throwing up these high-arching, rainbow shots ...
that's not a high-percentage shot. It's not something that you work on, so
he's doing his job whether it shows up in the block category or not."

His presence in that area can be seen in the Mavericks' statistics, though,
where Chandler and Dirk Nowitzki combined to make just 5 of 20 shots in Game
2.

"You've got a guy that's a massive difference-maker at the rim at both ends
of the floor," Carlisle said. "We know his game, we know his greatness. Two
summers ago, backed up the truck and tried to get him here."

Houston didn't have to do that for Howard's former AAU teammate Josh Smith,
grabbing him for just $2 million after Detroit ate $27 million to make the
erratic veteran go away. But Smith has been excellent off the bench for the
Rockets, posting one of his best all-around efforts in Game 2 with 15 points,
nine assists and eight rebounds.

火箭今年還簽下了遭到底特律活塞揮棄的Josh Smith，活塞要吃下27M的薪水，
但火箭只用了2M就簽來這位Howard的前高中隊友。Smith在第二戰打出了加入火
箭以來最全能的成績，拿到15分8籃板9助攻。


"He and Dwight had some beautiful hook-ups and lob passes, and he just did a
wonderful job of getting into spots and making the next play and breaking
down the defense," coach Kevin McHale said.

火箭教練Kevin McHale說："Smith跟Howard有很多漂亮的空中接力，他在走位
跟防守上都做得很好。"


The Rockets haven't grabbed a 3-0 lead in a best-of-7 series since sweeping
Orlando to win the 1995 title.

火箭自從1995年總決賽橫掃奧蘭多魔術封王之後，就不曾在七戰四勝制的比賽
中取得3-0的領先。
