Mavericks-Rockets Preview


The Dallas Mavericks proved too proud to suffer a four-game sweep against one
of their in-state rivals, though a cold shooting night from the Houston
Rockets certainly helped.

達拉斯小牛絕對不會甘於被同城世仇給橫掃，不過休士頓火箭低迷的命中率
也是小牛的扳回一成的原因之一。


Whether that desperation can carry the Mavericks through another elimination
game may again depend on how much they can slow the Rockets' prolific outside
attack Tuesday night.

小牛繼續面對背水一戰，如果他們系列賽想走得更遠，就要看他們能不能擋
下火箭強悍的外線火力。


Houston went just 2 for 21 from 3-point range through the first three
quarters in Game 4 on Sunday and finished 7 for 31. Josh Smith knocked down
four 3s in the final 12 minutes to slightly pad the Rockets' poor performance
(22.6 percent), which ranked as their eighth-worst this season.

火箭昨天前三節的三分球投21中2，最後投31中7。多虧Josh Smith在最後一

"We have to be better on both ends of the floor," James Harden said. "Credit
to them, they did a great job of pressuring the ball, but overall we have to
be better at doing what we're supposed to do."

Harden was 5 for 7 from behind the arc for Houston in Game 3 but has
otherwise shot just 3 for 16 in this series, while Trevor Ariza is hitting at
a 26.7 percent clip. The two shooters tied for third league-wide with 555
attempted 3-pointers this season for a Houston team that launched 32.7 per
game -- the highest average in NBA history.

Although that proficiency did not surface in Game 4, the Rockets' MVP
candidate does not expect to alter the gameplan as the series shifts back to
Houston.

"We shoot 3s," Harden said. "That's what we do."

Coach Kevin McHale credited the loss not to his team's poor shooting, but
instead to Dallas' urgency. The Mavericks outrebounded the Rockets 52-38 and
had 16 offensive boards, their most since Feb. 7.

"They played harder than us," McHale said. "They beat us on the boards bad.
They pushed it down on us. Our coverages were really loose, and they just
played harder than we did. That's the bottom line, they played with more
desperation."

Six players scored in double figures for the Mavericks. Monta Ellis led the
way with 31 points, while Al-Farouq Aminu (16 points, 12 rebounds) and Tyson
Chandler (10 points, 14 rebounds) each recorded double-doubles.

J.J. Barea also filled the statsheet with 17 points and 13 assists during his
first postseason start since the 2011 NBA Finals. He provided a much-needed
boost to the Mavericks' backcourt given the absence of Rajon Rondo, who has
essentially been dismissed from the team by coach Rick Carlisle.

J.J. Barea昨天擔任自從2011年總冠軍戰之後的首度季後賽先發，拿下17分
13助攻的優異表現。成為小牛在缺少Rajon Rondo之後的一劑強心針，Rondo
已經被教練Rick Carlisle排出在上場名單之外。


Carlisle, who filled his Game 3 postgame press conference with criticisms of
the officials -- and jokingly taped his mouth shut Sunday to avoid another
sizable fine -- instead spent Game 4's media session heaping praise on Barea.

卡帥第三戰賽後因為抱怨判罰而被罰款，昨天他很搞笑的在媒體提問時拿出
膠帶貼住嘴巴，以免再被罰款。他也在記者會中大力讚揚了Barea的表現。


"He's always a guy that's going to battle," Carlisle told the Mavericks'
official website. "He's relished playoff opportunities. That's been the
pattern of his career. He's played big for us a lot while he's been here. I
just think that's how he's wired and how he approaches it."

卡帥在球隊官網訪問說到："他是個戰士，他喜愛季後賽的機會，這是他生涯
中一貫的模式，他之前曾經在季後賽大放異彩，我想這次他也會用相同的態
度來面對。"


Dallas has dropped its last four visits to Houston, including Games 1 and 2,
and last won a road playoff game against the Rockets on April 30, 2005.

小牛這個系列賽的兩場客場，也就是第一戰與第二戰，都敗給了火箭。上次
小牛在季後賽的客場擊敗火箭，要追溯到2005年的4月30號了(G4)。


Houston has won only one playoff series since advancing to the Western
Conference finals in 1997, and bowed out in the first round each of the past
two years under McHale.

火箭自從1997年打進西區決賽之後只贏過一個系列賽，而且近兩年都在第一
輪鎩羽而歸。


Dirk Nowitzki struggled in his last trip to Houston, scoring only 10 points
in Game 2's 111-99 defeat. The performance marked Nowitzki's fourth-lowest
point total in 139 postseason games. He shot 7 of 14 for 16 points and added
eight rebounds Sunday.

Dirk Nowitzki在上次作客火箭時狀況低迷，只攻下10分，小牛以99-111輸了
第三戰。10分是Dirk在生涯139場季後賽當中的最低紀錄，他昨天投14中7拿
下16分8籃板。
