After being spurned by DeAndre Jordan last off-season, there was some talk
around town of the Mavs tanking this season to keep their draft pick and
start the post-Dirk rebuilding process a little bit early.

Well, Mark Cuban wasn't having any of that. After losing out on Jordan, Cuban
went out and put together a piecemeal roster, just as he has done the last
few years. The result? The Mavs sit in 6th place in the always competitive
Western Conference and look like a team that could give the Clippers some
problems in the first round, if they end up matching up.

What has made this year interesting so far for the Mavs? Here are 10
interesting stats to digest while you wait for the season to restart on
Friday.

1. 20.3
Although his full-season stats show that he's averaging only 12 points per
game this season, Chandler Parsons has turned it on of late, averaging 20.3
points per game in his last 13 games, including a couple of 30-point outputs
in January. If Parsons can start carrying more of the scoring burden for the
Mavs, their offense -- ranked 18th in points per game thus far -- could take
off.

Dirk is averaging 17.6 points per game this season, which leads the Mavs by a
considerable amount. Still, that total is only good for 32nd in the league,
which has 21 players averaging 20 points or more per game.

3. 9-19
This is the Mavs' record against teams at or above .500. That's obviously not
going to cut it if the Mavs want to improve their record and feel good about
competing in the Western Conference playoffs. This number includes 0-3
records against both San Antonio and Oklahoma City.

When the Mavs signed journeyman Zaza Pachulia in the off-season, no one was
imagining he would be a double-double machine. Well, that's exactly what he
has become. Pachulia has 22 double-doubles this season and is averaging 10
points and 11 rebounds per game. He's no Tyson Chandler, but he has
definitely exceeded expectations this year.

The Mavs are attempting the sixth most three-pointers per game this season --
27.8. The Warriors, who are second in the NBA with 30.5 attempts per game,
have made this style of play blow up in popularity because of their great
success the last few years. The difference between these two teams in the
success of these attempts is quite large, though. Golden State is making a
ridiculous 42.4 percent of their attempts while the Mavs are only making 34
percent of their tries, good for 22nd in the league.

Dirk passed Shaq earlier this season to claim 6th on the all-time scoring
list and currently has 28,979 points in his career. Next up on the all-time
list is Wilt Chamberlain, but it could be a while before Dirk catches him. He
needs 2,440 points to tie Chamberlain at 32,419. At his current pace, that
could take him another two seasons after this one.

JaVale McGee has posted a 21.12 PER rating this year, which measures a
player's overall efficiency (15 is the rating for an average player). That's
the highest mark on the Mavericks. The seven-footer has only played in 32
games this season, so maybe Carlisle will think about playing him more in the
second half. Or maybe they are scared of seeing more of these types of
moments from McGee:

The Mavs' longest losing streak this season has been three games, which has
happened only twice so far. Although they only have one winning streak over
four games, avoiding long losing streaks has helped them stay above .500 and
right in the thick of the Western Conference playoff race.

Wesley Matthews' 33.1 minutes per game is the most playing time for any
player on the Mavs this year. That puts him at 40th in the NBA, which shows
Rick Carlisle is following the recent trend to keep his best players' minutes
in check so they can be fresh for the playoffs. This strategy was made
popular, of course, by Gregg Popovich and the Spurs.

小牛本季上場時間最多是Wesley Matthews的33.1分鐘。這排在全聯盟第40名，
這也表示出Carlisle遵循著控制好隊上最佳球員的上場時間， 來面對季後賽的

The Mavs rank third in the NBA in average attendance, averaging just over
20,000 fans per game. Only the Bulls and Cavaliers are averaging more fans
per game. Even with a roster devoid of stars outside of Dirk, the fanbase is
still coming out to support this team in droves. Maybe it's because fans want
to get one last look at Dirk while he's still playing well, but the fact is
that there are 27 other team owners that would love to be where the Mavs are
in the attendance standings. We're sure Mark Cuban is fired up.
