DALLAS — Returning to American Airlines Center following four straight games
away from home, the Dallas Mavericks will now attempt to bounce back in front
of their own fans before venturing back out on the road.

Collecting back-to-back wins in Portland and Los Angeles before falling to a
111-104 defeat Monday night in New Orleans, the Mavericks (9-22) will now try
to rebound on their home hardwood before concluding their current stretch of
four games in five nights on the West Coast. The Mavs will also try to learn
from their late-game miscues in New Orleans during Monday’s loss, completing
a back-to-back 24 hours later against another Southwest Division rival in the
Houston Rockets. And after dropping the first three matchups against the
in-state rival Rockets (23-9) without 13-time All-Star Dirk Nowitzki in the
lineup, the Mavericks hope to have the 7-footer available when they attempt
to avoid a season series sweep Tuesday night.

Achilles strain. Nowitzki followed that performance with 10 points on 4-of-9
shooting in 17 minutes Monday night as he continued to find himself under a
strict minute restriction. The future Hall of Famer now hopes to be available
on the second night of a back-to-back as he continues to regain his elite
form.

Mavericks failed to even the series two nights later in the Toyota Center
while falling to a hard-fought 93-92 defeat. The Mavs also came up short
during the third meeting of the season between the in-state rivals, limping
to a 109-87 lopsided loss in Houston on Dec. 10. But with the season series
set to wrap up Tuesday night in Dallas, the Mavericks are optimistic that
they can salvage a win on their home floor by paying plenty of attention to
perennial All-Star and early-season MVP candidate James Harden.

three wins over the Mavericks this season. He’s also shooting just 39.6
percent from the field and 34.6 percent from three-point range in those three
games. That said, Mavs coach Rick Carlisle believes it will be a team
responsibility to slow Harden down for the better part of 48 minutes Tuesday
night.

harder. It’s obviously a team responsibility, but we’re also going to have
to throw a lot of guys at him and try to make it as hard as possible. But you
’re not going to completely shut down a great player. It just doesn’t
happen.”
