Duncan Robinson signs contract with Miami Heat
Duncan Robinson, a player with no Division I scholarship offers out of high sc
hool who started his college career at a small Division III school, has signed
an NBA contract.
The former Michigan forward signed a one-year, two-way contract with the Miami
Heat on Tuesday. The University of Michigan confirmed, via Twitter, a report
from The Athletic's Michael Scotto.
The 6-foot-8 sharpshooter is currently playing for the Heat's Summer League te
am, averaging 12.4 points and 2.4 rebounds in five games while shooting 63 per
cent (17-for-27) from 3 and 58 percent from the field.
A two-way contract allows for a player to divide time between an NBA franchise
and its G-League (developmental league) affiliate. The concept came about in
the 2017 off-season and allows teams to have up to two players under two-way d
eals. Former Wolverine Derrick Walton, Jr., signed a two-way contract with the
Heat last season. He appeared in 16 games with the Heat and spent the rest of
the season in Sioux Falls Skyforce.
A player under such a deal can spend no more than 45 days with the NBA team wi
thout signing a standard NBA contract.
