What's next for the Nets in free agency?

LAS VEGAS — General manager Sean Marks and coach Kenny Atkinson both said
the Nets have a contingency plan after losing out on Allen Crabbe and Tyler
Johnson in restricted free agency.

LAS VEGAS訪問時 GM和教練說在失去crabbe和TJ後還另有備用方案計畫。

The specifics? Well, they’re not telling at the moment. But even though the
Nets have around $30 million in cap space and four open spots on the roster,
don’t expect them to do anything rash with their money.

，也不能隨便不顧後果的亂花錢。

“We’re not just going to go out and spend for the sake of spending,” Marks
said. “It’s about us doing the right things at the right times, and who
knows what will happen. We have a lot of flexibility next year, so hopefully I
’m standing in front of you next year with a couple of guys who sign offer
sheets that maybe didn’t get matched.”

The Nets committed a combined $125 million on Crabbe and Johnson before
seeing both offers get matched. And, as Marks alluded to, the Nets wan the
flexibility to go after future restricted free agents in the same way.

“We have to have patience. That’s the whole deal," Marks said. "I mean when
we came here we said this is not gonna be a quick fix. We’ve never said this
is something that’s going to be turned around in 3 or 4 months. This is
something where we’re going to take our time, we’re going to be systematic
and strategic.”

As for the types of players the Nets will target, Marks said they’ll seek
talent “across the board.” But Atkinson hinted that “wings,” similar to
Crabbe and Johnson, are a priority under his coaching system.

而對於籃網將鎖定的多種類型的多位球員，Marks說他們將會尋求其他有天賦的球員

“The more versatile, the better,” Atkinson said. “Two, three. If they can
play either wing position. Obviously, there’s not a million guys out there
right now so we’re going to have to again contingency plan and figure out
what guys are out there. But there are still some good players out there, so
hopefully we get them.”

It’s more complicated than just talent, however.

Three of the best wing players left on the market Dion Waiters, JR Smith and
Lance Stephenson. All three players have had character issues in the past.
Since Marks took over, the Nets have said they want to focus on bringing in
players with high character.

現在在市場上還剩有最好的三個側翼球員，有 服務生，JR，和舞王。但這三個球員
在過去都有人品問題前科。而自從Marks接管GM後，
在籃網公開說過 以找高品德的球員為主。

When asked how the Nets would balance character with talent, Marks left room
for interpretation.

“We’re always going to think twice,” Marks said about considering players
with character issues. “But you have to see where those scales tip.
Obviously there are guys out there who have a heck of a lot of talent, but
maybe they do have somewhat of a checkered past. But at the same time, for
us, we’re not going to deviate a whole lot. We want guys in here that not
only the group, the ownership, the staff of the Brooklyn Nets can be proud
of, but the community can be proud of. That’s important for us.”
