Bjorkgren spent his first two years (1994-96) playing college basketball at
South Dakota before transferring to Division III Buena Vista in his home town
of Storm Lake, Iowa.

He landed his first head coaching job at age 23 at tiny Sioux Central High
School. The school was so small he wasn't only the basketball coach — he was
the assistant baseball coach, the assistant football coach and he drove the

Nick Nurse left South Dakota in 1995, but he reunited with Bjorkgren in 2007

Eager to move up the coaching ranks after teaching and coaching high school

Bjorkgren coached under Nurse in the G League for four seasons winning a

become the head coach of the Rio Grande Valley Vipers. In 2013, Bjorkgren and
Nurse met in the G League championship with Nurse's Valley Vipers winning the
series 2-0.

Raptors. They won an NBA Championship together in 2019, making Bjorkgren the
first assistant coach to win an NBA Finals and an NBA G-League title.

events, public speaking," Bjorgren told arizonasports.com. "It really gives
