Spurs take Serbian center Nikola Milutinov at 26


Not unexpectedly, the Spurs added to their prodigious collection of so-called
“draft and stashes” on Thursday, selecting Serbian center Nikola Milutinov
with the 26th pick of the 2015 NBA Draft.

General manager R.C. Buford said it has yet to be determined whether
Milutinov, 21, will play with the Spurs next season. He will play with the
Serbian national team at the European championships rather than the Spurs
summer league team in Las Vegas. The young center averaged 9.8 points, 7.6
rebounds and 0.8 blocks last season in the Adriatic Basketball Association.

“We’re excited to get Nikola,” Buford said. “He is a young big guy that
has improved a great deal over the past year. As we go to the future and need
to replenish our size, we try to add a player like that and give him a chance
to develop and see what he can do.


“I think the comparison we’ve made more (than Tiago Splitter) is Rasho
(Nesterovic). Really good passer. The really interesting thing about him is
that he is a better offensive rebounder than a defensive rebounder. You don’
t see that with many people his size. There are parts of his game we need to
develop. But from where he was a year ago to now, as a 20 year old, he’s
come a long way.”

The Spurs now hold the rights to 12 players who played internationally last
season. Avoiding another guaranteed contact could be a priority for the Spurs
as they enter an offseason with 10 free agents, and a keen eye on Portland
All-Star LaMarcus Aldridge.

Milutinov (7-0, 225) is described as an agile player with good speed and
quickness and a 7-foot-3 wingspan. While not particularly effective in the
paint, he can pass and produce in the pick and roll. As you might gather from
his height and weight, he’s got little strength and tends to get pushed
around on both ends of the court.

NBA Draft has an extensive report on Milutinov, ranking him as an 8 or 9 out
of 10 in athleticism, size and defense, but only a 6 in strength and post

The Spurs later selected Massachusetts center Cady Lalanne (6-9, 240) with
the 55th pick. With a 7-5 wingspan, he is primarily a rebounder.

“He came in and had a really good workout,” Buford said. “He’s an
athletic big guy that has a really good shooting form. The expectations there
with Cady, we don’t know. We hope to get him in from summer league and start
building his plan from there.”


馬刺後來用55號簽選了Massachusetts的中鋒Cady Lalanne(6呎9240磅重)，一個7呎5臂展
的籃板手。Buford表示"Cady Lalanne有個很好的測試表現，他是個運動力很好的長人而

As has been the norm during the Tim Duncan/Gregg Popovich era, the Spurs do
not have prime position in tonight’s NBA Draft, with the 26th and 55th
selections. They’ve still been involved in any number of minor rumors —
 that they’re looking to trade up, or even out of the first round entirely.

With no immediately pressing needs, the Spurs still face huge uncertainty
heading into free agency next month with 10 players out of contract,
including Tim Duncan and Manu Ginobili. And chatter has only strengthened
regarding their interest in Portland All-Star LaMarcus Aldridge, who is said
to favor the Spurs among the handful of teams set to pursue him this summer.

由於是在Tim Duncan以及Gregg Popovich的時代，僅僅只有26號以及55號選秀順位，今晚
的選秀會並不是馬刺的首要目標，但他們仍然有許多的乳模(rumors)-馬刺可能尋求交易

Every penny will count if the Spurs are to pull that off while keeping their
roster somewhat intact. Which is why another one of their patented “
draft-and-stash” selections could make sense to keep the guaranteed money
due a first-round pick off the books. But with that money still representing
a pittance in the overall scheme of a salary cap threshold expected to be in
the range of $67 million, they’ll also need cheap talent to flesh out their
team with Aldridge potentially coming in with a max contract while others —
 Danny Green? Cory Joseph? — are likely to go.

Assuming, of course, there’s somebody they even like at 26th, which is no
sure thing given that Spurs general manager R.C. Buford puts the number of
prospects they’re interested in at roughly two dozen.

With less than three hours to go, we’ll be here through the completion of
the draft and the following media availability — usually Buford, and
possibly their No. 1 pick — to provide news and updates on what should be a
fascinating draft.

如果馬刺要把空空如也的球員名單補滿勢必要錙銖必較，這也為什麼馬刺喜歡選秀來囤積
(這幾乎是馬刺專利了)，為的就是把第一輪新秀的薪水從帳上剔除，但是為了控制薪資帽
在6千7百萬美金的門檻內，這點錢真的微不足道。在可能面臨Aldridge的頂約以及Danny
 Green 或者 Cory Joseph 可能出走下，馬刺將還需要一些物美價廉的人才來補充球隊的
人員。

當然這是假設，馬刺可能在26順位其實另有新歡，但是有太多的不確定因素讓馬刺總管
R.C. Buford不敢妄下決定。
