Popovich no fan of Boban Mania

Boban Marjanovic, all 7-foot-3 of him, went to the foul line in the fourth
quarter of the Spurs’ 112-79 blowout victory of Phoenix on Wednesday at the
AT&T Center and a few fans in the crowd went temporarily insane.

"M-V-P!" came the chant in the mostly quiet arena.

Spurs coach Gregg Popovich was not amused.

“Sometimes it actually worries me,” Popovich said of the phenomenon that
has come to be known as “Boban Mania.” “I think the crowd, they really get
a kick out of him and all that, but he’s a basketball player. He’s not some
sort of an odd thing.”

A rookie center from Serbia, Marjanovic has been a fan favorite since the
start of the season, due mostly to his size.

Now that Marjanovic is getting steadier minutes, fans cheer any time he
checks into the game, anytime he touches the ball, anytime he does anything
at all. The good-natured Marjanovic has soaked up the adulation, calling the
crowd support “amazing.”

Popovich said he understands fans having fun, but hopes the outsized
Marjanovic “gets treated with the respect other people do.”

“He’s a hard worker and he’s a really intelligent kid and he wants it
badly,” Popovich said. “I think you can get off your game when people cheer
in a certain way, over the line, for no reason.”

Popovich知道球迷需要找點樂子，但他希望巨人Boban能夠像其他人一樣受到尊重。

"他是個努力的人，也是個聰明的孩子，他很渴望得到球迷的喝采。我想你可以在某種喝
采方式中上場比賽，但沒有理由太過頭。"

A game after scoring 17 points in less than 15 minutes in Monday’s victory
over Minnesota, Marjanovic grabbed 12 rebounds in 15 minutes against the Suns.

He is the first player in franchise history to record as many boards in as
little playing time.

“His upside is huge,” Manu Ginobili said. “He has a lot of potential. As
everybody else, he has to adjust to the speed of the game; to the refs; to
the system; to everything. But for sure he has that type of length that has a
huge advantage because of his hands and his touch.”

And that, Popovich says, is something worth cheering.

繼上場比賽對灰狼在15分鐘內攻下17分之後，Boban對太陽又在15分鐘內抓下12個籃板，
在這麼短的上場時間中抓下這麼多籃板，他是隊史第一人。

"他的成長很巨大"Manu說，"他有很多潛力，就像其他人一樣，他需要適應比賽的節奏、
裁判的尺度、球隊體系，任何事情。可以肯定的是因為他的身材和臂展，讓他有許多優
勢。"

Popovich認為這才值得喝采。



心得:雖然大家都很喜歡看巨人上場，不過過度的喝采除了有嘲笑對手的意味，對巨人也

不夠尊重，老波的意思大概是這樣。喔對了，之前忘了是看到哪裡來的消息，說巨人其實

是Rap高手XD
