[題目] 幾題國學的問題

小弟前陣子將國學的新多益閱讀大全做完，最近正在複習。但下面這題問題還是不太會，
網路上也查不到相關資料，因此上來版上請教各位高手。

書名：新多益閱讀題庫大全
版本：2014年的那版，至於是第幾版我也不知道
頁數：p.134 第6題
題目：

        lutions.
        (A)     confront
        (B)     confronting
        (C)     confronts
        (D)     confronted

    疑問: 答案是D, 解答本上的說法是說把being confronted with 的 being 省略掉。
          小弟想請問是"面臨、遭遇"的用法只能用被動態 be confronted with 嗎?
          不能用 人 confront with 事物 嗎?
