Serena Williams’ return to Wimbledon appeared to be over much sooner than expec
ted. Williams sustained a knee injury during her first-round singles loss to May
a Joint, putting the doubles match with her sister Venus in jeopardy.

小威回歸溫布頓的行程似乎比預期更早結束，她在首輪單打輸給Maya Joint的比賽中膝蓋受
傷，使她與姐姐Venus的雙打賽事陷入不確定狀態


That doubles match was believed to be scheduled for Thursday, but when Wimbledon
 released its schedule for the day, the Williams sisters were not on it. The sam
e thing happened Friday.

原本預計雙打比賽安排在週四，但當溫布頓公布當日賽程時，威廉絲姊妹並不在名單上，週
五也出現了同樣的情況


With questions swirling about Serena's availability, tournament director Jamie B
aker admitted Wimbledon was trying to give the legend enough time to recover so
she could take the court with her sister, per The Telegraph.

隨著外界對小威是否能出賽的疑問不斷，賽事總監Jamie Baker向《電訊報》表示，溫布頓
正試圖給這位傳奇球員足夠的恢復時間，好讓她能與妹妹一同上場


"We are giving her as much time [to be ready]. Obviously we want her to play if
she possibly can. In terms of the days, it's a guideline. That's what we're hopi
ng to do based on trying to get the tournament finished.

「我們會給她盡可能多的時間（準備），很明顯，如果她有可能上場，我們也希望她能出賽
，至於日期安排，那只是指引，我們的目標是在完成整個賽事的前提下進行調整」


"There are actually sometimes exceptional circumstances, like weather or injurie
s, or sometimes conflicts of players playing in two or three events. It doesn't
happen that often but occasionally you do get the odd match that carries over."

「實際上有時會出現特殊情況，例如天氣、傷病，或是選手同時參加兩到三個項目產生衝突
，這種情況不常見，但偶爾確實會有比賽被順延」


Some might look at that as preferential treatment for the Williams sisters, some
thing Baker didn't exactly deny.

有人可能會認為這是對威廉絲姊妹的特殊待遇，而 Baker也沒有完全否認這種看法

"Serena and Venus are massive global stars," said Baker. "A lot of people want t
o see them.

「Serena和Venus是全球級的巨星，很多人都想看到她們出賽」

That shouldn't necessarily come as a surprise, especially considering Serena's s
ingles loss broke ratings records for ESPN.

這其實也不令人意外，尤其考慮到小威單打失利那場比賽還打破了ESPN的收視紀錄
