As recently as a couple weeks ago, mock drafts had the Timberwolves selecting
Ohio State forward Keita Bates-Diop … in the first round.
近兩個星期，模擬選秀預測灰狼隊將在首輪挑選 Keita Bates-Diop。

But on Thursday, Minnesota nabbed the Big Ten Player of the Year in the second
round with the No. 48 overall pick.
最終灰狼隊在第二輪48順位撿走了這名 Big Ten 聯盟年度最佳球員。

“We were very surprised he was still there, but we liked him a lot,” Wolves
coach Tom Thibodeau said. “He was in the discussion at No. 20 for a long time.
… We felt we were very fortunate.”

The 6-foot-8 forward spent four years with the Buckeyes, the third of which was
stunted by injuries ranging from a broken leg to a stress fracture to a
sprained ankle. But he rebounded to average 19.8 points and 8.7 rebounds a game
as a senior, while shooting 48 percent from the floor and 36 percent from
3-point range, though Bates-Diop told the Washington Post he can shoot better
than that.
這位6尺8前鋒在俄亥俄州大待了四年，第三年因傷所困，從腿骨骨折、疲勞性骨折到
腳踝扭傷。但他在大四這年重新振作，打出場均19.8分和8.7個籃板，同時有48%的投籃

He can score from all three levels, and his offensive versatility caused
problems for Big Ten defenses. Defensively, Bates-Diop blocked 1.6 shots a game
last season. He told Hoops Hype he can play shooting guard, small forward and
power forward.

“I can switch on defense, one through four or one through five,” he said. “I
can guard multiple positions and run with the bigs, too.”

His 7-foot-3 wingspan adds to his defensive prowess.

“It will be hard for people to get shots over me,” Bates-Diop told HoopsHype.

Bates-Diop was the second wing the Wolves selected with as many picks,
addressing their biggest need as well as a team can in a draft.

“We thought we were able to address some of our needs,” Thibodeau said. “The
versatility of both guys is important for our team.”
