While nothing has been totally decided on Saunders, he is widely expected
to be named the full-time coach, a move that would come with the approval
of virtually the entire roster, including All-Star Karl-Anthony Towns.

Layden’s status is less clear. The GM was in lockstep during Thibodeau’s
time in control of the organization and did manage to build a strong
relationship with Taylor after Thibodeau’s exit. But it is common for a
new top executive to surround himself with hand-picked staff. Layden has
two years and roughly $4 million left on his contract and also has a
reputation for being team-oriented and averse to the agendas that can
often get in the way during a transition, so the possibility remains that he
will stay on in some capacity.

Casson was hired after Thibodeau and Layden came on board in 2016, so he
wasn’t there to help Taylor through the process. Now 78 years old, Taylor
knew he needed help this time around to identify the right candidates and
make a hire that would better fit from a personality and skill-set
standpoint, so he empowered Casson to run the show.

The 45-year-old CEO went looking for someone he could team with to try to
raise the profile, both locally and nationally, of a franchise that has long
been synonymous with missteps and losing. Each candidate visited the
Twin Cities and met with a host of team staffers, including vice president
of community engagement John Thomas, Lynx GM and coach Cheryl Reeve,
Saunders and Layden. Those meetings, sources said, were more to help the
candidate get a feel for the organization. Saunders and Layden did not
have a say in the decision-making process.

Taylor spoke to all four candidates via phone during the process. Taylor
and his wife, Becky, met face-to-face with Rosas on Tuesday.

這次找尋POBO過程與過去幾次(Kahn、Thibs)很不一樣，78歲老闆 Taylor 完全將決定
權交給執行長 Casson。每一位候選者參觀雙子城，並且和多位球團幹部會面，
John Thomas、Cheryl Reeve、小桑、Layden 都在會面名單中，不過小桑和 Layden
沒有參與最終決定。Taylor 僅和決選四位人選通過電話，在 Rosas 與 Taylor 見
面後，這波由 Casson 首度主導的海選過程劃下句點。

也難怪這次選人方式感受不到 Taylor 的風格，
球團確確實實邁向新篇章了。
