A miserable shooting night in Minnesota helped turn Rodney Hood's season
around

The Timberwolves were there for the turning point.
Just a few days before the new year, the Utah Jazz stumbled to a 94-80 loss
in Minneapolis and for Rodney Hood, the second-year shooting guard, bottom
was just about the only thing he could hit.
"That was a breaking point for me, I feel like, as a player," Hood recalled
this week of his 1-for-13 shooting night in late December. "It was low, just
because I think we outplayed them that game, we just couldn’t throw a rock
in the ocean. Particularly me."

But Hood, who is preparing for a rematch with Minnesota on Friday night, has
gone nowhere but up since that late-December meeting. The shooting guard, who
this week was named to the All-Star weekend showcase for the league’s top
first- and second-year players, has blistered the month of January, averaging
18.4 points, 4 rebounds and 2.5 assists a game. He’s shooting 45 percent
from the floor and better than 47 percent from 3-point territory.

Hood and Gordon Hayward have been the Jazz’s go-to players as the team has
dealt with injury after injury—and the duo has kept their team within
striking distance of playoff position.
"Rodney’s production offensively has been huge," Jazz coach Quin Snyder said.
But Hood is "such a diligent person and he’s such a perfectionist that he
can take a miss too hard," his coach said.

And after missing 12 of 13 attempts that night in Minnesota last month, Hood found himself extremely
disheartened before Jazz forward Gordon Hayward grabbed his ear.
"We had a long conversation after the game," Hood said.
The advice was simple — keep your head up, keep shooting, we need you — but
for Snyder it showed Hayward’s maturity and Hood’s growing relationship
with the young Jazz leader. It was also, apparently, quite effective.
"You know, I told myself I wasn’t going to drop my head anymore this season,
regardless if I shot the ball well or not," Hood said. "I was going to be
aggressive. My team needs that. They believe in me."

其實在慘痛的113之後，Hood曾經覺得很沮喪，但是真老大Hayward在賽後跟他談了很久

就是叫Hood昂首闊步，給我射，我們需要你射，Hood則表示，經過這樣的鼓勵，

他本季絕對不會再垂頭喪氣了，不管是射得進還是打鐵，我都會積極的狂抽猛射

我們的隊伍需要我射
