Lyles was garbage for Utah last year, though he's been decent for Denver so
far. Still, Donovan is playing on a whole other level already, I imagine he'd
be Denver's best guard if given the opportunity (or if it's the right system
for him). Donovan is a great scorer and passer, so he can play SG or PG.
Regardless, I am glad Denver keeps sending us their goodies.

That's a weak principle. If the other teams don't evaluate OG to be good
enough to take at 13, then in many circumstances it makes sense to trade down
and extract value from that trade while getting your guy anyway. Hindsight is
20/20. Sometimes good risks don't pay off. I'm not sure this one was good,
but we're being very reactionary here.

Honestly? I think if he was in a bigger market, and Simmons wins the ROY (not
that he’s undeserving) over him they change the ROY award to a draft class
one... hell, they still might with this monster draft class but Simmons as a
holdover.

Really hard to say. Mitchell is carrying such an extreme load for a rookie
guard and is doing a tremendously great job as of late, but his shooting
struggles in the beginning of the season were significant (37.1% from the
field through 19 games with a 46.8% TS%). He's been obscenely good since then
(26.1 a game with a 66.7% TS%) and if he even comes close to keeping up
anywhere near that (say 22 a game with a 58% TS%) I'd give him the nod.

But right now, Tatum is 14/5.5 with a 64.8% TS% over the entire year in
almost the opposite scenario: his role offensively is less than it could be
on a different team. Far less. It's almost criminal that he only has a 17.7%
usage rate. He's in a great position to succeed efficiency wise, but he's
being put in a very poor position to rack up scoring quantity numbers.
Mitchell is the exact opposite: he's getting every chance to shine with the
points, but his efficiency is suffering (although not in his last 5 games,
obviously!).

So long story short, right now I'd still give the nod to Tatum since
Mitchell's first 4/5 of this season weren't great. I'm very much open to
adjusting that though, and again I want to note comparing these guys is so,
so, so tough due to the different roles they have on their respective teams.

He's the best player on his team already. Tatum is still the 3rd/4th.
Mitchell has been the Jazz go to guy. Against the Thunder the other night, he
was guarding Paul George, being guarded by George/Roberson on offense, on a
back to back, and still dropped 31. Tatum isn't doing that yet.

If there's anyone the Knicks "should have drafted," it's Donovan Mitchell.
Home grown New York kid that is intelligent, modest, high character and ready
now. He's 3 years older than Ntilikina so hopefully in time we see some real
growth from him, but damn would Mitchell be looking real nice in orange and
blue.
