Prayer of the Exile in the Dust Storm Ashley Anna McHugh ENHEDUANNA: Silence the streets, and let the city fall to ruin -- barren shrines unswept, the gods disguised by dust; collapsing in the wind, abandoned homes -- the only signs of life are what was left behind: a bowl of flour, still nestled on a window sill, untouched; a woman's dresses, folded near her bed; the dirty curtains lifting in the wind -- or the small forgotten trinkets of a child, clay carving of a bird, a strand of wool once intertwined with flowers for her hair -- Destroy it all, my Goddess. Strip it bare.
