We may well agree that Mr Reagan beat communism.
But he was playing a game of chicken with our lives.
Mr Gorbachev wisely pulled to the side of the road.
It is to him we owe our gratitude, not the reckless driver.

  Chicken game是政治學裡面的一種理論
  就是美國電影裡面常看到的兩個人開車對撞
  先閃開的人就是chicken 用在國際政治裡面就是指涉兩方都往衝突的邊緣前進
  如果要翻得白話點，整句話意思是
  我們或許同意雷根總統的確擊垮了共產主義，然而他卻是用我們的生命下這個賭注
